SKIRTS
Bias Gore Skirt
An 8 gore skirt with deep on-seam pockets, a contoured waistband, and a center front button closure. This was my first piece patterned to create a custom fit. I wanted to create a skirt that was versatile - comfortable and flows for summer, but more coverage for cooler weather and traveling. I also wanted to make sure to create pockets with ample space.
Details:
Fabric is a tencel cotton blend
Buttons are made of wood
Contour waistband was patterned to create a custom fit
Pockets are 9” deep and can easily hold a phone, wallet, or even a small book
Inner waistband is finished with a seam tape bound curtain
I paired this piece with my bomber jacket for a photo shoot. Check it out here:
Next Steps:
I really enjoyed dyeing the wool for this project and would love to do more of this, specifically with natural dyes. The look of the topstitching and the piecing with the wool is something I would like to try out in a jacket, pants, or maybe another style of skirt. I have continued to use the waistband curtain finish on other projects and really like both how this can add a pop of color and create a clean looking finish.

A project from my first quarter construction class at Seattle Central College’s Apparel Design and Development program. I focused on even top stitching, elegant waistband and hem finishes, camouflaging ons-eam pockets, and learning how to line a garment.
